OUT NOW | Violinist, VC Young Artist Marc Bouchkov’s New ‘Harmonia Nova #2’ Album [LISTEN]
Harmonia Mundi has today announced the release of VC Young Artist, violinist Marc Bouchkov’s new album ‘Harmonia Nova #2’ - a homage to the great Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe.
Recorded with pianist Georgiy Dubko, the newly-released disc features Ysaÿe’s 5th and 6th solo sonatas, Ysaÿe's newly unearthed 'Fantasie', 'Si vous saviez' and ‘Légende Norvégienne’ pieces, Chausson’s ‘Poème’ - and the 26 year old violin virtuoso's own original new Ysaÿe-inspired solo works ‘Fantasie' and 'Melodie'.
“I have always been fascinated by the unexplored works of known composers … the hidden gems, so to speak …. so one day I registered myself at the Brussels archives and started to dig …” Marc has told The Violin Channel.
“I have always loved Ysaÿe … and when I found this magnificent little-known ‘Fantasie’ work for violin and piano, which I don't believe has been recorded before … I knew immediately this was my journey,” the former Montreal International Violin Competition 1st prize winner has said.
“It reminded me of something wonderful that someone like legendary violinist David Nadien would have played in an old black and white Charlie Chaplin Hollywood film … then the rest of the disc just came together around it effortlessly - as my tribute to this great man."
