The Blair School of Music, at Vanderbilt University has today announced the appointment of Stephen Miahky to the ‘Joseph Joachim Professor of Music’ position – replacing long serving violinist Christian Teal.
As part of the role, Mr Maihky will also assume the 1st Violin chair in the School’s resident Blair String Quartet.
“Steve Miahky is a consummate artist,” Blair School Dean Mark Wait has said, “ …when he came to Vanderbilt to interview, he taught a master class of penetrating insight, gave a stylistically diverse solo recital that included one of the finest performances of a contemporary work I’ve ever heard, and demonstrated assured leadership in working with the other members of the Blair String Quartet’
Mr Maihky currently serves on the faculty of Bowling Green State University – and previous held appointments at Ohio and Cornell Universities.
He will replace Professor Christian Teal – who will stand down from the faculty after 42 years.
