Happy Birthday, Ida Kavafian!

Born in Istanbul from Armenian descent, Ms. Kavafian is a graduate of The Juilliard School. She was presented in her debut by Young Concert Artists with pianist Peter Serkin and later received the acclaimed Avery Fisher Career Grant.
A student of Oscar Shumsky and Ivan Galamian, Kavafian is an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and former violinist of the Beaux Arts Trio for six years. She was the Artistic Director of Music from Angel Fire in New Mexico, where she leaves a legacy of over 40 world premieres commissioned by the festival.
She resides in Philadelphia and Connecticut with her husband, violist Steven Tenenbom, where they breed and train prizewinning Hungarian vizsla show dogs.
Kavafian serves distinguished teaching positions on faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music and Bard College Conservatory of Music.
