12 Ensembles Announced for London's Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition
The 12 string quartets have today been announced for the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition - to be held in London from the 24-29 March.
The 2015 competitors are:
Aeolus Quartet (USA)
Aizuri Quartet (USA)
Alinde Quartett (Germany)
Amber Quartet (Spain)
Benyounes Quartet (UK)
Evita Quartet (USA)
Piatti Quartet (UK)
Quatuor Girard (France)
Quatuor Lumière (Switzerland)
Rolston String Quartet (USA)
Van Kuijk Quartet (France)
Zora String Quartet (USA)
"Wigmore Hall is delighted to welcome twelve such diverse quartets to the International String Quartet Competition, which is always an exciting and rewarding journey for all competitors”, Wigmore Hall Director John Gilhooly has said, “ … I look forward to a fascinating week of total string quartet immersion.”
The winning quartet will receive £10,000 (US $16,000), a UK and German concert tour, residences at the Banff Centre and Avaloch Farm Music Institute, a place at McGill International String Quartet Academy – plus recital appearances at the Morrison Artists Series and the Royal Greenwich String Quartet Festival.
