28-year-old Czech cellist Václav Petr has been awarded 2nd prize at the 2018 Prague Spring International Cello Competition
28-year-old Czech cellist Václav Petr has just minutes ago been awarded 2nd prize at the 2018 Prague Spring International Cello Competition, in Prague, Czech Republic.
No 1st prize was awarded at this year’s competition.
Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Julia Hagen from Austria and Aleksey Shadrin from Ukraine.
A honorable mention was awarded by this year's jury to finalist Gunwoo Park from South Korea.
A graduate of the Prague Academy of Performing Arts and the Künste University in Berlin, Václav is a former prize winner at the David Popper, Antonio Janigro, Bohuslav Martinu and the Rudolf Matz International Cello Competitions and the Val Tidone and Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competitions.
Václav has served as principal cellist with the Czech Philharmonic since 2014.
