BREAKING | Callisto Quartet Awarded Grand Prize at 2018 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition

The Callisto String Quartet has been awarded the Grand Prize at the 2018 45th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition

The Cleveland Institute of Music-based Callisto String Quartet has just minutes ago been awarded 1st prize in the Senior String division and the competition's Grand Prize at the 45th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition - at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, United States.

Comprising violinists Paul Aguilar and Rachel Stenzel, violist Eva Kennedy and cellist Hannah Moses, the ensemble will receive US $13,500 – plus a number of important domestic and international performance opportunities.

2nd and 3rd prizes in the Senior String division were awarded to the Viano String Quartet and the Thalea String Quartet.

1st prize in the Junior division was awarded to the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago-based Kairos String Quartet - who were also last week awarded 1st prize in the Junior division of the M-Prize Chamber Music Competition.

Comprising violinists and violists Joshua Brown and Julian Rhee, violinist Thompson Wang and cellist Lydia Rhea, the Kairos Quartet will receive US $2,300.

2nd and 3rd prizes in the Junior division were awarded to the Razumovsky Quartet and the Geneva String Quartet.

1st prize in the Senior Wind division was awarded to the Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Donald Sinta Quartet.

Comprising saxophonists Dan Graser, Zachary Stern, Joe Girard and Danny Hawthorne-Foss, the Donald Sinta Quartet will receive US $7,000.

2nd and 3rd prizes in the Senior Wind division were awarded to the Vanguard Reed Quintet and the Tangent Winds.

This year’s Senior String division jury comprised: violist Victoria Chiang, violinist Simin Ganatra, cellist Paul Katz, and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.

This year’s Junior division jury comprised: pianist Judith Gordon, cellist Daniel McDonough, bassoonist Ryan Reynolds, and violinist Janet Ying.

This year’s Senior Wind division jury comprised: saxophonist Carrie Koffman, flutist Massimo Mercelli, trumpeter Roy Poper and hornist Eric Reed.

Since its founding in 1973, more than 6,600 musicians have participated in the annual competition – including former Grand Prize recipients VC Artists Calidore Quartet and the Dover Quartet.
