Montreal International Music Competition President and Co-Founder André Bourbeau has passed away from cancer - aged 81
Former Canadian politician, philanthropist and Montreal International Music Competition President and Co-Founder André Bourbeau has passed away from cancer - aged 81.
He, alongside his colleague Joseph Rouleau, founded the international violin, piano and vocal competition in 2002.
"This morning, my father left us in his sleep, in peace, and surrounded by his relatives," his son, Eric Bourbeau has said via social media.
“His presence and generosity were immeasurable … André devoted much of his life to supporting young musicians here and around the world … he will be greatly missed,” the competition has said.
Previous prize winners include VC Artists Ayana Tsuji, Marc Bouchkov, Benjamin Beilman, Nikita Borisoglebsky, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Stephen Waarts, Zeyu Victor Li, Ji Young Lim, Fedor Rudin, Ji Won Song, Minami Yoshida and Bomsori Kim.
