Biggest business lesson you’ve learnt so far in your career?
Stay organized and consistent - just do a little bit every day even when things feel overwhelming.
5 things you love about your ensemble
-The trust and freedom onstage -The love of extra-musical elements we sometimes weave into our performance such as speaking poetry and working with artists from a wide-range of art forms -Discovering new places through our travels and forming relationships with hosts, audiences, and presenters along the way -All the laughs and silliness -Openness to adventurous programming, experimentation and in-house trio arrangements
What would be your ensemble’s dream gig?
Notwithstanding the plane ride and jet lag, an Australia / New Zealand tour
What would you say makes your ensemble unique?
Julia is “off to Pluto” when she’s performing, Lee gives moving impromptu musicology lectures onstage, and Brigid’s accents and impressions keep everyone endlessly entertained - In other words, the cohesion of strong individual elements onstage and off.
Do you want to give a shout out to an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time?
My former violin teacher Mark Mogilevski - a beautiful and inspiring violinist and person. He recently started putting some of his amazing recordings on youtube, and it’s been so moving to be able to listen to him again, even from half the world away! I’m always learning from him.
