British period instrument pioneer, cellist Caroline Brown has passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer - aged 64.
A graduate of London's Royal College of Music and the Vienna Hochschule für Musik, where she studied with Anna Shuttleworth, Joan Dicks and Andre Navarra, Caroline was a founding member of the London-based Hanover Band period instrument orchestra.
Founded in 1980, the Hanover Band focuses on historically-informed performances of music of the 18th and 19th centuries - played mostly on period instruments.
Over its 38-year history, the ensemble has made regular appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw, the BBC Proms, Edinburgh Festival and New York's Lincoln Center.
Our condolences are with Caroline's family, friends, colleagues and students.
