VERY SAD NEWS | Eminent Austrian Cellist and Conductor Heinrich Schiff Has Died

Austrian cellist and conductor Heinrich Schiff has died in Vienna - aged just 65

Austrian cellist and conductor Heinrich Schiff has died in Vienna - aged just 65.

A student of Tobias Kuhne and Andre Navarra at the Vienna Music Academy, he served as Artistic Director of the Northern Sinfonia - and as Chief Conductor of the Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur, Copenhagen Philharmonic and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

He had been in poor health for several years following a stroke in 2008.

His famed students included cello virtuosi Rudi Spring, Gautier Capuçon, Richard Harwood and Natalie Clein.
