Dutch trombonist Ruud Merx has died this morning, aged just 47, following a massive heart attack on Saturday morning – whilst on tour in the UK with the ‘Andre Rieu Live’ arena show.
He had served as a member of Rieu’s Johann Strauss Orchestra since 1994.
Earlier this week the Dutch superstar violinist announced the remainder of the UK tour would be postponed until March next year, following the emergency.
“Many of my orchestra members have been with me for more than 25 years … we are a family … we are deeply saddened by this tragic event and it is impossible for us to continue our tour as planned …” Rieu said at the time.
Ruud’s wife, violinist Alina-Lin Jong also serves as a longstanding member of the ensemble.
Our condolences are with Ruud’s family, friends and colleagues.
