Cellist Inbal Segev Launches New Commissioning Project
Entitled "20 for 2020," the first of four volumes will be released this week by AVIE Records
Co-founder of the Amerigo Trio and prize winner at the Pablo Casals, Paulo, and Washington International Competitions, cellist Inbal Segev commissioned 20 composers to musically document their responses to the crises of 2020.
The project's goal was to support her fellow artists and provide solace to audiences.
Involving composers of contrasting and stylistic voices, ranging in age, gender, and culture, the four volumes of "20 for 2020" will highlight issues from the pandemic to quarantine isolation, loss, racial injustice, and mass protests.
The works include solo cello with occasional multilayering and different chamber combinations. Other performers include pianist Timo Andres, double bassist Xavier Foley, pianist Anna Polonsky, Vivek Pandya on Tabla, Mari Tanaka playing the Tanpura, and the Brooklyn Rider string quartet.
