Conductor Bramwell Tovey Steps Down from the Calgary Opera

The 67-year-old conductor was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2019, after taking on the role of Artistic Director in January of the same year

“The board and staff thank Maestro Tovey for his leadership during these unusual and difficult times and wish him and his family the best as he focuses on his health," said a spokesperson for the Calgary Opera.

"Calgary Opera looks forward to welcoming him back as the conductor of 'Fidelio' in October 2021."

The company has begun looking for a replacement.
