California's Berkeley Symphony Announces New Music Director
The Berkeley Symphony has announced 36-year-old American conductor Joseph Young as its new Music Director
The Berkeley Symphony in Berkeley, California, United States, has this week announced 36-year-old American conductor Joseph Young as its new Music Director - effective from September of this year.
A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and the University of South Carolina, Joseph currently serves as Resident Conductor of the USA National Youth Orchestra - and is a former Assistant Conductor to the Atlanta Symphony.
“It’s something you can’t always explain about conductors ... there was a chemistry there ... a certain humility Joseph had and the way he could express what he wanted from the orchestra," Orchestra Executive Director René Mandel has said.
He will replace former Music Director Joana Carneiro - who stepped down from the ensemble in May of last year.
