Warner Classics has this month announced the release of American violist David Aaron Carpenter's new double disc set: Motherland.
Recorded with conductors Kazushi Ono, Vladimir Jurowski and David Parry and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the set includes the newly-world-premiered arrangement of Dvorak's Cello Concerto for solo viola, Bartok and Walton's viola concerti - plus new solo works for viola by contemporary Maltese composer Alexey Shor.

"The masterworks by Dvorák, Bartók, Walton and Shor all share a reverence for their native musical folk tunes and language ..." David has told The Violin Channel.
"The London Philharmonic Orchestra premiered Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in 1894 ... it was always a dream of mine to premiere it on the viola ... now a hundred years later with the same legendary orchestra ..." the 32-year-old former Naumburg International Viola Competition winner has said.
"Dvorák was an accomplished violist and principal of his orchestra ... I could certainly envision Dvorák picking up his viola and playing through some of the passages."
