Klein Competition — Executive Director
Candidates for this position should have 3-5 years' experience in arts administration, as well as knowledge of the classical music industry
The Klein Competition of the California Music Center is seeking a new Executive Director, following the news that Marcy Straw has resigned from the role after six years' service.
Based in San Francisco, the Klein Competition has run for more than 37 years and offers more than $30,000 total prize money for the world's best young string players. A number of notable musicians have won prizes at the Klein, including Jennifer Koh, Tessa Lark, and Nikki Chooi.
The Executive Director will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the Klein Competition, in conjunction with the Artistic Director. Responsibilities will include fundraising, marketing, event production, and financial management, as well as the managing of relations with both the board and competition alumni.
The position is part-time at approximately 0.5 FTE (non-exempt), and will be compensated at a rate of $40 per hour. The nature of the work is somewhat seasonal and increases during the month of June, when the competition is held — but on average is about 20 hours per week.
The candidate should live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where local events will take place, though much of the work can be undertaken at home.
