The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, in the United Kingdom, has this week announced the appointment of Latvian violin virtuoso Gidon Kremer as its new Artist-in-Residence - effective from the commencement of the 2018-19 season.
The 71-year-old will commence his collaboration with the ensemble this September with a performance of Bartok's Violin Concerto No. 1 - plus return for a number of recitals and performances exploring the music of Polish-Russian composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg.
"I am delighted to share our 2018-19 season plans and look forward to taking our audiences on a true musical exploration as we perform music inspired by the different cultures of the Baltic region ..." Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla has said.
"I am particularly happy that my dear friend Gidon Kremer will join us as artist in residence," she has said.
