South Korean Luthier Scoops International Violin Making Top Prizes

South Korean luthier, Ji Hwan Park has today been awarded the Grand Prize at the 2016 Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Making Competition
South Korean luthier, Ji Hwan Park has today been awarded the Grand Prize at the 2016 Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Making Competition, in Poznan, Poland.
Hosted every five years, the event is largely respected as the oldest lutherie competition in the world.
Ji Hwan will receive €20,000 (US $23,000).
He was also awarded joint-second prize for another of his instruments - with luthier Krzysztof Krupa from Poland.
This year’s jury comprised: Raymond Schryer (Chairman), Ulrike Dederer, Andrea Frandsen, Dante Fulvio Lazzari, Wojciech Lukasz, Tadeusz Slodyczka and Jan Špidlen.
