The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, in New York has today announced the appointment of 29 year old Chinese-born Shenghua ‘Simon’ Hu as their new Principal 2nd Violinist.
A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory, where he studied with Fan Lei, Kurt Sassmannshaus and Albert Markov, Shenghua is a former major prize winner at the Paganini and Sarasate International Violin Competitions.
He has served as a section 2nd violinist with the Met Opera Orchestra since 2015.
The orchestra has indicated they narrowed their search from 14 semi-finalists and 3 finalists.
