NEW TO YOUTUBE | Gil Shaham Performs Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto
The American violinist performs here with conductor Ryan Bancroft and the London Philharmonic Orchestra
"Each one of these pieces, these great masterpieces, is like a friend, like a person you’ve known for so many years," Shaham reflected on ABC Classic earlier this year. "I enjoy so many of them, more and more as time goes by."
This performance was filmed in April of this year at the Royal Festival Hall with no audience. The performers are socially distanced in line with COVID-19 precautions.
Making his concerto debut when he was 10 with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Israel, Shaham won Israel’s prestigious Claremont Competition and a scholarship to the Juilliard School. In 1990, Shaham was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and in 2008 he received the Avery Fisher Prize.
He plays the 1699 "Countess Polignac" Stradivarius and lives in New York City with his wife, violinist Adele Anthony, and their three children.
