Hyperion Records has announced the release of violinist Bohuslav Matoušek's new 4-CD set: 'Martinů - The Complete Music for Violin and Orchestra'.
Recorded with conductor Christopher Hogwood and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the 4-disc set features Bohuslav Martinů's (1890-1959) 1st and 2nd Violin Concertos, Duo Concertantes, Czech Rhapsody, Suite Concertante, Concerto da camera, Rhapsody Viola Concerto - and Flute and Violin, Violin and Piano and Double Violin Concertos.
"The first time I encountered Martinů’s music I was prenatal when my mother was singing Martinů’s 'Sung Ballet' with a choir ..." Bohuslav has told The Violin Channel.
"As a young violinist, I recorded Martinů's complete string quartets with the Stamic Quartet - and his violin and piano works with, pianist Petr Adamec ... Martinů's body of works for the violin are gorgeous and very extensive ..." he has said.
"For some listeners, the first encounter with the music of Martinů can be quite shocking - but I am immensely happy to be the bearer of his wonderful music."
