Polish violinist Karol Lipiński died on this day in 1861 – aged 71
Polish violinist Karol Lipiński died on this day in 1861 – aged 71.
One of the celebrated virtuosi of the 19th Century, he is the dedicatee of Niccolò Paganini's burlesque variations La Carnival de Venice Op. 10.
For much of his career he concertised on the 1715 Lipinski Stradivarius – now played by Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Frank Almond.
