Sphinx Organization Announces $350,000 Black & Latino Grant Recipients
The Sphinx Organization, a US non-profit organization dedicated to the development of young American Black and Latino classical musicians, has today announced the 19 recipients of the 2015 Inaugural Mpower Artist Grants.
The 2015 recipients are:
Ana Lucía Galarza, $35,000 – to attend The City College of New York
Andrew Joseph Gonzalez, $3300 – to attend the Tokyo International Viola Competition and the Verbier Festival Academy
Angelica Durrell, $20,000 – To increase the impact of the INTAKE Native Instrument Academy
Annelle Gregory, $6,725 – To record the complete works of Rachmaninoff for violin and piano
Christine Lamprea, $20,000 – to pursue studies with cellist Matt Haimovitz
Dana Kelly, $2850 – to attend the Vienna University of Music summer masterclass in Semmering, Austria
Douglas Cardwell, $45,00- – to purchase 5 American Dresden Mark XIV Timpanies
Gabriela Lena Frank, $41,000 – to revise and create piano reductions of major chamber and symphonic pieces
Gabrielle Hooper, $1,500 – to attend the Interlochen Center for Arts 1 week Cello Institute
Jannina Norpoth, $27,000 – to create, produce and perform a multimedia song cycle for rock band 'Hollands', string quartet 'PublicQuartet' and visual artist Amy Khoshbin
Joseph Conyers, $30,000 – to create a career, social entrepreneurial and leadership training programme for student's at the Philadelphia All-City program
Juan-Salvador Carrasco, $3,050 – to attend the Heifetz International Music Institute
Karla Donehew-Perez, $30,000 – to purchase a violin by German luthier Stefan-Peter Greiner
Kelly Hall-Tompkins, $24,500 – to perform and present a chamber music series in homeless shelters in New York and Los Angeles
Karlos Rodrigeuz, $28,000 – to purchase a cello by Michael Doran
Meredith Riley, $1,400 – to attend 'Music by the Sea' in Bamfield, British Columbia
Robyn Qunnett, $15,000 – to found a music education and chamber music concert series in the island of Montserrat
Simone Seales, $6,000 – to attend 'Project Trio's Project' in New York City and the 'Interhamony International Summer Music Festival' in Italy
Tamara Gonzalez, $9,700 – to run a 5 day multi-school string workshop in Puerto Rico
