Tucson Symphony Violinist George Patrick Blum has Died, Age 55
Blum had been a member of the orchestra's first violin section for over 30 years
Described as a man of "modest, quiet courage" who was a "beloved friend to many", Blum served not only in the TSO but was also the assistant concertmaster in Laszlo Veres's Tucson Pops Orchestra for many years.
Blum also trained as a violin maker, and was awarded the title of Master Luthier by the Peter Prier Violin Making School in Salt Lake City in 1993. In this capacity, he repaired and maintained the instruments of many professional violinists in his local area.
Outside of music, Blum enjoyed hiking and camping with his children in the mountains surrounding Tucson. He was also a devotee of ancient history and had a wide knowledge of the classics.
Our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
