Russian violin virtuoso and pedagogue Andrei Korsakov was born on this day in 1946.
A protégé of Boris Belenky and Leonid Kogan, Mr Korsakov was a former prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth, Paganini, Jacques Thibaud and Montreal International Violin Competitions - and served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.
He passed away in 1991 – aged just 44.
