Today is Italian-German VC Artist Augustin Hadelich’s 40th birthday!
Born to German parents in Cecina, Italy, Hadelich started his violin studies at the age of five. His early musical education involved sporadic lessons and attending masterclasses given by notable violinists visiting the rural Tuscany area near his family farm, including Uto Ughi, Christoph Poppen, Igor Ozim, and Norbert Brainin. Hadelich's talents as a violinist, pianist, and composer flourished during his childhood, he was renowned as a child prodigy in Germany.
Hadelich graduated with top honors from the Instituto Mascagni in Livorno, Italy, and secured admission to The Juilliard School. During his time at Juilliard from 2004 to 2007, Hadelich was under the tutelage of Joel Smirnoff, earning both a Graduate Diploma in 2005 and an Artist Diploma in 2007.
A former 1st prize winner of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition (2006), Mr Hadelich is also a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant (2009) and Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship (2011). His accomplishments were further recognized in 2018 when Musical America named him their Instrumentalist of the Year.
In 2021, Hadelich was named to the faculty of the Yale School of Music, where he instructs a select group of violinists and conducts masterclasses for all YSM string players. Additionally, he has served as a teaching resident at esteemed institutions such as the Colburn School, Curtis Institute of Music, and Kronberg Academy.
Hadelich has also conducted master classes at various prestigious venues including the Aspen Music Festival and School, University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
