American violin virtuoso Berl Senofsky was born on this day in 1926.

A student of Louis Persinger and Ivan Galamian, Mr Senofsky was a former recipient of the coveted ‘Walter Naumberg’ Award – and was the first and only American 1st Prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition.

He passed away in 2002 – aged 76.
