Prizes Awarded at Augsburg’s Leopold Mozart Violin Competition
19-year-old violinist Joshua Brown from the United States has been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Leopold Mozart International Violin Competition
19-year-old violinist Joshua Brown from the United States has today been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Leopold Mozart International Violin Competition – in Augsburg, Germany.
A student of Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory, Joshua will receive €20,000, a CD recording – plus a number of important orchestral and festival performance opportunities.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 19-year-old Karisa Chiu from the United States - and 24-year-old Kaoru Oe from Japan.
The 2019 jury comprised: Benjamin Schmid (Chairman), Friedemann Eichhorn, Liza Ferschtman, Sabine Frank, John Gilhooly, Ulf Hoelscher, Danjulo Ishizaka, Nils Mönkemeyer, Christian Poltéra, Marco Rizzi, Erik Schumann, Remy Franck, Jens F. Laurson and Anna Picard
This year's critics prize was awarded to Semi-Finalist Simon Wiener from Switzerland.
Previous prize winners include: VC Young Artists Ji Won Song and Ziyu He.
