ON THIS DAY | Happy Birthday VC Artist Angelo Xiang Yu!
The Chinese violin virtuoso is quickly building an international reputation as one of today's most exciting and gifted concert artists
Born in Inner Mongolia China, VC Artist Angelo Xiang Yu moved to Shanghai at the age of 11 and received his early training from violinist Qing Zheng at the Shanghai Conservatory.
Yu is a frequent guest artist at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, as a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s prestigious Bowers Program (formerly CMS Two).
He is the recipient of both a 2019 Avery Fisher Career Grant and a 2019 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award.
Yu became the newest member of the Shanghai Quartet in 2020 and currently is a faculty member at John J. Cali School of Music and at Montclair State University and as a resident faculty member at the Tianjin Juilliard School.
Mr. Yu currently performs on the 1715 “Joachim” Stradivarius violin, generously on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Angelo is a former prize winner at the Michael Hill and Wieniawski International Violin Competitions — and former first prize winner at the Menuhin Competition.
