VC YOUNG ARTIST | Violist Jordan Bak — "A Star in the Making and One to Watch Out For"

27-year-old Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak is captivating audiences internationally with his radiant stage energy and robust alto sound

 

He was recently described by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer as a "Star in the Making ...[and] a young artist to watch for".

A graduate of The Juilliard School and New England Conservatory, where he was a student of Hsin-Yun Huang, Dimitri Murrath, and Samuel Rhodes, Jordan is a former major prize winner at the Sphinx Competition and the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, as well as a former recipient of a Sphinx MPower Artist Grant and Samuel Sanders Tel Aviv Museum Prize.

Recent recital debuts include a performance at London's Wigmore Hall, New York's Merkin Concert Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium and Alice Tully Hall, Boston's Jordan Hall and Baltimore’s Shriver Hall, and chamber music tours with the Musicians from Marlboro and CAG on Tour.

Bak is currently on the faculty of the Opportunity Music Project in New York, and served as a Teaching Assistant to The Juilliard School's ACHT Viola Studio.

He was recently chosen to perform an all-solo recital in the opening series of The Violin Channel's highly acclaimed Vanguard Concerts Series.

Jordan currently performs on a 2016 Jon van Kouwenhoven modern viola.
