Winners Announced at New York’s Concert Artists Guild Competition

Cellist Gabriel Martins and violinist Geneva Lewis have been announced as the 2020 winners of the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition

A graduate of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Ralph Kirshbaum, and current student of Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory, Gabriel is a former 1st prize winner at the David Popper International Cello Competition and 2020 Sphinx Competition.

A student of Miriam Fried at New England Conservatory, Geneva is a former top prize winner at the Fischoff, St. Paul String Quartet and ENKOR Competitions.

Both young artists will receive 3 years of artist management and career development on the roster of Concert Artists Guild, including performance opportunities with more than 40 leading orchestras, concert series and festivals.

Violinist Ariel Horowitz, percussionist Britton-Rene Collins, and Empire Wild were awarded ambassador awards.

Previous CAG 1st prize winners include the Pacifica Quartet, violinists Jennifer Koh and Joseph Lin – and VC Artists InMo YangYoojing JangJordan Bak, and the Verona String Quartet.

The 2020 jury comprised: Abhijit Sengupta, Avi Avital, Cristina Rocca, Jenny Bilfield, Jessie Montgomery, Leila Getz and Nicholas Phan.
