Austrian violinist Wolfgang Schneiderhan died on this day in 2002 – aged 86.

A student of Otakar Sevcik and Julius Winkler, Mr Schneiderhan was a former Concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

He gave the premiere performance of Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s ‘Concerto Funebre’.
