Singaporean Violinist Jun Hong Loh 1st at New Zealand Gisborne Comp

25 year old Singaporean violinist Jun Hong Loh has been awarded 1st Prize at the 2015 Gisborne International Music Competition, in New Zealand.

2nd Prize was awarded to 16 year old New Zealand cellist Matthias Balzat – and 3rd Prize to 21 year old Australian saxophonist Mary Osborne.

The annual competition, open to solo orchestral instrumentalists aged 16-25, is regarded as one of the most significant development bursaries in the Australasian region.

A graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied with Glenn Dicterow, Sylvia Rosenberg and Joseph Lin, Jun will receive NZD $9000 and a solo engagement with the Orchestra Wellington.

16 year old Australian violinist Jimmy Park was awarded the ‘Most Promising Player Award’ scholarship.

The Pultron Composites Award for 'Best Performance of a work by a New Zealand Composer' was awarded to violist Bryony Gibson-Cornish.
