The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Italian conductor Fabio Luisi as its new Music Director
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has today announced the appointment of Italian conductor Fabio Luisi as its new Music Director - effective from the commencement of the 2020-21 season through to 2023-24.
The 59-year-old will replace Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden - who stepped down from the helm in 2016 following his appointment as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic.
Maestro Luisi currently serves as Music Director of the Zurich Opera, Danish National Symphony and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino - and previously served as Principal Conductor of New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
“I knew the orchestra had made huge improvements under Jaap, but I was really overwhelmed by the quality of this orchestra and the spirit they had,” Maestro Luisi has told The New York Times.
