The impressive performance was filmed as part of the Banff International String Quartet Festival
In advance of The Violin Channel streaming three of the Banff International String Quartet Festival concerts this coming month, enjoy this performance by the Isidore Quartet, filmed as part of Banff Centre's Rolston Sessions.
The Isidore Quartet won first prize at the 14th Banff International String Competition 2022 (BISQC), in Banff, Alberta, Canada.
Comprising violinists Phoenix Avalon and Adrian Steele, violist Devin Moore, and cellist Joshua McClendon, the ensemble studied at The Juilliard School under the mentorship of Joseph Lin, Astrid Schween, Laurie Smukler, and Joel Krosnick and won the 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant.
Their Banff triumph brings extensive tours of North America and Europe, a two-year appointment as the Peak Fellowship Ensemble-in-Residence at Southern Methodist University in Dallas beginning in 2023-24, performances at Haydn Hall in Eisenstadt (in spring 2023) and the Lucerne Festival, plus a two-week residency at Banff Centre including a professionally produced recording, along with extensive ongoing coaching, career guidance, and mentorship.
In 2017, the Banff International String Quartet Festival commenced in non-competition years and features competition alumni alongside special guests.
Led by Director of the Banff International String Quartet Competition Barry Shiffman, the three-day festival showcases today's exquisite talent in classical music.
The 2023 festival's in-person concerts recently came to a close. To celebrate the exciting programming, The Violin Channel will be streaming three of the festival's concerts.
On September 21, the VC Artist Viano Quartet will perform Beethoven, Lau, and Smetena. On September 28, world-renowned artists will perform a program of Vaughan Williams, Haydn, Carmen Braden, and Paul Nero. October 5 will see another group of performers play Beethoven, de Falla, Sarasate, Brahms, and Mendelssohn.
