Italian Violin Virtuoso Uto Ughi Born On This Day! [BORN-ON-THIS-DAY]

Today is Italian violin virtuoso and conductor Uto Ughi’s 72^nd birthday.

A student of Georges Enescu and Yehudi Menuhin, he is recognised as one of the world's finest violinists of the last century - having appeared during his 50+ year career with a majority of America and Europe’s top orchestras and conductors.

Maestro Ughi is the former Music Director of the l'Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and has founded a number of international festivals - including the Omaggio a Venezia, Omaggio a Roma and Uto Ughi per Roma.

He currently concertizes on the 1701 ‘Kreutzer’ Stradivarius violin - once owned by the dedicatee of Beethoven's famous violin sonata.
