20-year-old American cellist Gabriel Martins has this week been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Orford Music Award Competition - in Orford, Quebec, Canada.
A student of Ralph Kirshbaum at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, Gabriel is a former prize winner at the Popper International Cello Competition, Prague Spring International Music Competition, Sphinx Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

He will receive CAD $10,000 - plus an invitation to participate in the 2019 Orford Music Festival, a number of concert opportunities, a professional recording session and photo shoot and private meetings with a number of professional agents.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Canadian-Algerian pianist Mehdi Ghazi and American cellist Noah Lee.
4th and 5th prizes were awarded to Canadian pianist Jocelyn Lai and American pianist James Palmer.
