Joint-1st Prize Awarded at Pablo Casals International Cello Awards
Cellists Carla Conangla Oliveras and Johannes Gray have been awarded joint-1st prize recipients of the 2018 Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists
The Pau Casals Foundation, in Tarragona, Spain, has this week announced 21-year-old Spanish cellist Carla Conangla Oliveras and 21-year-old American cellist Johannes Gray as joint-1st prize recipients of the 2018 Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists.
Carla currently studies with cellist Gustav Rivinius at the Maastricht Conservatorium.
A student of Jérôme Pernoo at the Paris Conservatoire, Johannes is a former prize winner at the Sejong Music Competition, St Paul String Quartet Competition and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
Presented annually since 1984, both cellists will receive €12,000 prize.
This year's jury comprised Pablo Casals' widow Marta Casals Istomin, Marc Coppey, Alban Gerhardt, Frans Helmerson and Arnau Tomàs.
