Piotr Pielaszek Awarded Both Top Prizes at Poland's Wieniawski Violin Making Competition
Violin maker Piotr Pielaszek has been awarded both 1st and 2nd prizes at the 14th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition, in Poznan, Poland
A graduate of the Musical Academy in Poznan, Pielaszek is a former top prize winner at the International Violin Making Competition in Prague, Violin Society of America International Competition, and the International Violin Making Competition, in Mittenwald.
He was awarded 1st prize for his 'Dali' violin and 2nd prize for his 'Selva' violin.
68 contemporary violins were accepted into the opening round of this year's competition.
The final rounds of the competition were blind tested behind a screen with performances with both piano and orchestra.
Pielaszek will receive €21,000 in total for his 1st and 2nd prizes.
Jan Jakub Lipiński from Poland was awarded 3rd prize.
Gonzalo Boyolo from Spain was awarded a special prize for his commendable violin-making skills
Piotr Pielaszek was also awarded a special prize for the outstanding acoustical qualities of of his 'Dali' instrument.
The 2021 jury comprised Roberto Regazzi (Chairman), Marcin Krupa (Vice-Chairman), Bartosz Bryła, Andrew Finnigan, Laura Hamilton, and Ulrich Hinsberger.
