The Michigan Daily campus newspapers has this week raised allegations of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct against University of Michigan School of Music Violin Professor Stephen Shipps – with some alleged incidences spanning back almost 40 years.
The accusations include reports, by numerous female students, of alleged unwelcome touching, sexual assault – and of maintaining prolonged sexual relations with teenage students.
Shipps, 65, has served a teaching position at the University since September 1989 – and currently serves as the School of Music’s Chair of Strings and as Faculty Director of the Strings Preparatory Academy pre-college program.
No charges have been brought against Mr Shipps.
Presumptions of innocence apply.
