Russian-born pianist Assistant Professor Tatiana Tchekina, from the Eastman School of Music, has died this morning in a motoring accident in Upstate New York.
Her husband, international violinist Professor Oleh Krysa, a passenger in the vehicle, has suffered minor injuries.
Jamal Rossi, dean of the Eastman School of Music has issued the following statement: “Professor Tchekina was a valued member of our faculty who influenced the lives of the many students with whom she collaborated on performances and competitions. As a world-class musician, she had an international career both as a solo pianist and in collaboration with Professor Krysa. Our thoughts are with Oleh, and their family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Partners in both life and music, the husband and wife’s car was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver on the Interstate Highway near Rochester, New York at 1.30am this morning.
Ms Tchekina was 69 years old.
Our condolences are with Ms Tchekina’s and Mr Krysa’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
