Lost for over a century after its original low-key premiere in 1909, the 22 minute Violin Concerto of Johan Halvorsen (b. 1864) was re-premiered in July 2016 by Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud and the International Musicological Society.
During his lifetime, Halvorsen composed over 30 operas, 3 symphonies and a number of Norwegian rhapsodies, but was notorious for burning and destroying his own compositions during bouts of low self-esteem.
