2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to: 25-year-old VC Young Artist Timothy Chooi from Canada - and 23-year-old VC Young Artist Stephen Kim from the United States. 

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to: 26-year-old VC Young Artist Shannon Lee from Canada/United States, 27-year-old Julia Pusker from Hungary - and 26-year-old VC Young Artist Ioana Cristina Goicea from Romania.

20-year-old VC Young Artist Zlatomir Fung from the United States was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Cello Competition – in Moscow, Russia.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to VC Young Artist Santiago Cañón-Valencia from Colombia – and Anastasia Kobekina from Russia.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Taeguk Mun from South Korea, Yibai Chen from China – and Senja Elina Rummukainen from Finland.

30-year-old Sergey Dogadin from Russia was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition – in Moscow, Russia.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Marc Bouchkov from Belgium – and Donghyun Kim from South Korea.

Joint 4th was awarded to Aylen Pritchin from Russia and Mayumi Kanagawa from the United States.

6th prize was awarded to Milan Al-Ashhab from the Czech Republic.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Eric Tsai from United States – and 23-year-old Jevgēnijs Čepoveckis from Latvia.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Angela Sin Ying Chan from Hong Kong, 24-year-old Hannah Cho from the United States – and 20-year-old Victoria Wong from Australia.

The London-based VC Artist Marmen Quartet and the Los Angeles-based Viano String Quartet were awarded joint-1st prize at the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition – in Banff, Canada.

2nd prize was awarded to the Houston-based Callisto Quartet.

21-year-old Haruma Sato from Japan was awarded 1st Prize at the 2019 ARD International Cello Competition – in Munich, Germany.

12-year-old Jinan Woo from South Korea was awarded 1st prize in the 12 Years and Under Category. 

1st prize in the 13 to 16 Year Old Age Category was awarded to 14-year-old Lina Nakano from Japan.

The Simply Quartet from Austria was awarded 1st prize in the String Quartet Category at the 2019 Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition  in Copenhagen, Denmark.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to the Balourdet String Quartet from the United States - and the Quatuor Elmire from France.

19-year-old cellist Sterling Elliott from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the Senior Division of the 2019 22nd Annual Sphinx Competition – in Detroit, United States.

2nd prize in the Senior Division was awarded to 21-year-old violinist Adé Williams.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to 26-year-old violist Caleb Georges - and 24-year-old cellist Laura Andrade.

Haewon Lim from South Korea was awarded 1st prize in the Intermediate 15-to-17-years-old age category.

Maya Wichert from Germany was awarded 1st prize in the 14-Years-and-Younger Junior category.

27-year-old VC Young Artist Shannon Lee from Canada was awarded 2nd prize at the 2019 Sendai International Violin Competition  in Sendai, Japan.

No 1st prize was awarded at the competition.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to 23-year-old Mayu Tomotaki from Japan – and 22-year-old Chihiro Kitada from Japan.

5th prize was awarded to 18-year-old Elias David Moncado from Germany.

Joint 6th prize was awarded to 20-year-old Rio Arai from Japan – and 22-year-old Donghwi Ko from Korea.

1st and 2nd prizes were awarded to Zhenyi Jiang from China and Hyeon Hong from South Korea.

Joint 3rd prizes were awarded to Hoàng Hồ Khánh Vân from Vietnam – and Petr Fedotov from Russia.

 

American violist Jordan Bak, Turkish cellist Jamal Aliyev, German recorder player Tabea Debus and the New England Conservatory-based Merz Piano Trio were awarded 1st prizes at the 2019 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition in New York City.

VC Artist Angelo Xiang Yu, the JACK Quartet, piano duo Christina and Michelle Naughton and pianist, Henry Kramer were awarded 2019 Avery Fisher Career Development Grants.

 

Violinists, VC Young Artist Stella Chen and VC Artist Tessa Lark were announced as recipients of 2020 Lincoln Center Awards for Emerging Artists – in New York City.

The New England Conservatory-based Merz Trio was awarded 1st prize in the Senior Strings Division at the 46th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition – in South Bend, Indiana, United States.

2nd and 3rd prizes in the Senior Strings Division were awarded to the Abeo Quartet and Dior Quartet.

1st prize in the Junior Strings Division was awarded to the Fervida Trio.

 

22-year-old Anna Agafia Egholm from Denmark was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Tibor Varga International Violin Competition – in Sion, Switzerland. 

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 19-year-old Adam Koch Christensen from Denmark – and 24-year-old Roksana Kwaśnikowska from Poland.

 

20-year-old Hayoung Choi from South Korea was awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Krzysztof Penderecki International Cello Competition – in Kraków, Poland.

2nd prize was awarded to Francesco Stefanelli from San Marino.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to Yang Kang from China - and Bence Bankovi from Hungary.

 

19-year-old American cellist Sterling Elliott was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition – in Davis, California, United States.

2nd prize was awarded to 19-year-old American cellist James Hettinga.

 

The UK-based VC Artist Marmen Quartet and the Vienna-based Simply Quartet were awarded joint top prize at the 2019 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition – in Bordeaux, France.

 

The Mithras Trio from Moldova/United Kingdom was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition – in Trondheim, Norway.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Trio Hèlios from France – and the Trio Opal from Japan/Germany/Taiwan.

21-year-old Australian cellist Rachel Siu was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 5th ‘Getting to Carnegie’ Competition – at Carnegie Hall, in New York City.

 

The National Federation of Music Clubs announced cellist Alexander Hersh, pianist Susan Yang, soprano Lily Arbissser and tenor Paul Wolf as 1st prize winners of the 2019 Young Artist Competition – in Greenwood, Indiana, United States.

 

22-year-old German cellist Sebastian Fritsch was awarded 1st prize in the cello division of the 2019 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition – in Berlin.

2nd and 3rd prizes in this year’s cello competition were awarded to Sul Yoon from South Korea and Petar Pejčić from Serbia.

 

18-year-old American violinist Daniel Rafimayeri from the United States was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Stulberg International String Competition – in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 19-year-old cellist Nathan Le – and 19-year-old violinist Sory Park.

17-year-old American cellist James Baik was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 34th Irving M. Klein International String Competition – in San Francisco.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 23-year-old cellist Dakota Cotugno and 22-year-old violinist Julia Mirzoev.

4th and 5th prizes were awarded to 20-year-old bassist Gabriel Polinsky and 19-year-old cellist James Hettinga.

 

18-year-old Eric Charles Chen from the United State was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Thomas & Evon Cooper International Violin Competition – in Oberlin, Ohio, United States.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 14-year-old Shihan Wang from China – and 16-year-old Isabella Brown from the United States.

22-year-old cellist, Jonathan Swensen from Denmark was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 7th Windsor Festival International String Competition – in Windsor, England.

 

13-year-old Leonard Toschev from Germany and 15-year-old Wojciech Niedziółka from Poland were awarded joint 1st prize at the 2019 Telemann International Violin Competition – in Poznań, Poland.

2nd prize was awarded to Wiktoria Białostock from Poland.

Joint 3rd prizes were awarded to Katharina Auer from Austria - and Alicja Pustuła from Poland.

 

Kornii Sheldunov from Ukraine was awarded 1st Prize in the 9 years and younger category at the 2019 Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young Violinists – in Brussels, Belgium.

Joint 2nd Prize was awarded to Patriks Kļaviņš from Latvia – and Luísa Sousa Margalho from Portugal.

Joint 3rd Prize was awarded to Cecilia Arnau Torán from Spain – and Leander Hennes Resch from Germany.

The 1st prize in the 10 to 13 year old category was awarded to Sieun Moon from South Korea.

Joint 2nd Prize was awarded to Elizabeth Gekova from Bulgaria – and Marie Veronica Helling from Poland/Germany.

Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Roman Červinka from the Czech Republic, Paride Losacco from Italy, Hana Shah from Great Britain – and Alberto Friman from Finland.

1st Prize in the 14 to 17 year old category was awarded to Daniil Bulayev from Latvia.

28-year-old American violist Paul Laraia was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition – in Port Erin, on the Isle of Man.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Yuchen Lu from China – and Paul Adrien Zientara from France.

 

17-year-old American cellist James Baik was awarded the Senior 1st Prize and Grand Prize at the 2018 22nd Annual Walgreens National Concerto Competition – in Ravinia, Illinois, United States.

13-year-old pianist Kimiko Darcy was awarded 1st prize in the 2018 Junior Division.

Violinists Daniel Cho from South Korea/United States, Kyumin Park from South Korea and Johanna Pichlmair from Austria were awarded joint 2nd prize at this 2019 Max Rostal International Violin Competition – in Berlin.

4th prize was awarded to Alexander Won-Ho Kim from South Korea.

 

24-year-old German violist Tobias Reifland was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Max Rostal International Viola Competition – in Berlin.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 20-year-old Sào Soulez Larivière from France/Holland – and 29-year-old Sangyoon Lee from South Korea.

4th place was awarded to 19-year-old Nicholas Algot Swensen from Denmark.

 

30-year-old violist Luosha Fang from China was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Vienna Classic Strings International Viola Competition – in Vienna.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 26-year-old James Dong from Australia – and 24-year-old Aleksandr Tatarinov from Russia.

 

24-year-old Portuguese cellist Goncalo Lélis was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Agustin Aponte International String Competition – in Tenerife, Spain.

Second prize was awarded to violinist Michael Nodel.

Joint third prize was awarded to violist Daichi Yoshimura, cellist Yejin Kim and violinist Mio Sasaki.

 

12-year-old Australian cellist Ho-Se Kim was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Queensland Symphony Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Competition – in Brisbane, Australia.

 

7-year-old Japanese violinist Himari Yoshimura was awarded the Grand Prize in the Junior 10 years and under category of the 2019 Grumiaux International Competition for Young Violinists – in Brussels, Belgium.

Joint-1st prize in the Grumiaux Competition Junior category was awarded to 8-year-old Kai Gergov from Bulgaria/Japan and 10-year-old Nguyen Le Nguyen from Vietnam. 

Joint-2nd prize was awarded to 10-year-old Anton Carus from the United States, 10-year-old SuMin Kim from South Korea and 10-year-old Riisa Nakahara from Japan. 

Joint-3rd prize was awarded to 9-year-old Anisiya Artemova from Russia, 10-year-old Khanui Erdenebat from Mongolia, 9-year-old Defne Güngör from Turkey and 10-year-old Nil Ipek Sabi from Turkey.

23-year-old YeongKwang Lee from South Korea was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Markneukirchen International Cello Competition – in Markneukirchen, Germany.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Friedrich Thiele and 21-year-old Daniel Thorell.

 

18-year-old Finnish violinist Laura Kukkonen was announced as the winner of the 2019 Play With Ray‘ initiative – granting her the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform Bach’s Double Violin Concerto at the Hollywood Bowl, in Los Angeles, with superstar Australian violinist, VC Artist Ray Chen and the LA Philharmonic.

 

21-year-old Ayaka Uchio from Japan was awarded 1st prize in the Senior Category of the 2019 Grumiaux International Competition for Young Violinists – in Brussels, Belgium.

2nd prize was awarded to 18-year-old Rika Tanimoto from Japan – and 3rd prize to 19-year-old Taishin Yamamoto from Japan.

15-year-old Kyota Kakiuchi from Japan was awarded 1st prize in the 14 to 17 year old age category.

Joint-3rd prize was awarded to 17-year-old Leonid Anikin from Russia, 16-year-old Juseon Kim from South Korea and 17-year-old Miquel Muñiz-Galdon, from Spain.

13-year-old Bianca Ciubancan from United States/Romania and 12-year-old Naz Irem Turkmen from Turkey were awarded 1st prize in the 11 to 13 year old age category. 

Joint-2nd prize was awarded to 12-year-old Hyunjung Cha from South Korea, 11-year-old Tao-Yuan Hsiao from Taiwan and 12-year-old Emiri Kakiuchi from Japan. 

Joint-3rd prize was awarded to 11-year-old Seoyul Kim, 13-year-old Zofia Olesik from Poland and 13-year-old Milena Pioruńska from Poland.

Joint-1st prize was awarded to 8-year-old Kai Gergov from Bulgaria/Japan and 10-year-old Nguyen Le Nguyen from Vietnam.

Violinist Samuel Vargas, flutist  Alejandro Lombo, oboist Bhavani Kotha, clarinetist Freya Spence, saxophonist Eric Zheng, trumpeter Cade Gotthardt, jazz trombonist Dave Mosko, classical trombonist Connor Rowe, percussionist Austin Keck, classical pianist Xinzhu Ma and jazz pianist Will Kjeer were announced as the 2019 Yamaha Young Performing Artist winners.

 

The Soma Saxophone Quartet was awarded the Grand Prize at the 2019 9th Plowman Chamber Music Competition in Columbia, United States.

 

18-year-old violinist Elias David Moncado from Germany was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition – in Toruń, Poland.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Robert Łaguniak from Poland – and 23-year-old Yumiko Yumiba from Japan.

 

27-year-old Finnish bassist Maria Krykov and 22-year-old Portuguese bassist José Trigo were awarded joint-2nd prize at the 2019 Bottesini International Double Bass Competition – in Crema, Italy.

17-year-old Hwang Junbin from South Korea was awarded 3rd prize.

 

12-year-old violinist Kento Hong from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the Junior Division of the 2019 Chappaqua Orchestra Concerto Competition – in Chappaqua, New York.

2nd and 3rd prizes in this year’s Junior Division were awarded to 14-year-old pianist Christopher Zandieh and 17-year-old violinist Elli Choi.

21-year-old flutist Jaein Kim from South Korea was awarded 1st prize in the Senior Division.

 

The British-based Barbican Quartet was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Joseph Joachim International Chamber Music Competition – in Weimar, Germany.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to the VC Artist Marmen Quartet from Great Britain – and the Cosmos Quartet from Spain.

 

22-year-old violinist Ashley Park from the United States was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition – in Poughkeepsie, New York.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 25-year-old violist Ao Peng from South Korea – and 24-year-old violinist Chener Yuan from China.

 

The Hattori Foundation for Music and the Arts in London announced violinist Callum Smart, cellist Margarita Balanas, pianists Andrei Iliushkin, Ariel Lanyi, Arisa Onoda, and Wouter Valvekens, clarinetist Ivan Rogachev and oboist Rees Webster as the 8 recipients of the 2019 Senior Hattori Foundations Awards.

 

18-year-old Chien Chin from China was awarded 1st prize in the Senior 16-18 year old age category at the 2019 Ilona Fehér International Violin Competition – in Budapest, Hungary.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 18-year-old Doga Altınok from Turkey- and 16-year-old Sára Kovács from Hungary.

1st prize in the Junior 9-12 year old age category was awarded to 11-year-old Yume Tomita from Japan/United Kingdom.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 11-year-old Gáspár Kelemen from Hungary – and 10-year-old Defne Güngör from Turkey.

 

25-year-old Dutch cellist Anton Spronk was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Benedetto Mazzacurati International Cello Competition – in Turin, Italy.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to cellists Minji Kang and Zuzana Sosnowska.

 

American violist Brian Bires was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Texas Music Festival Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition – in Houston, Texas, United States.

2nd prize at this year’s competition was awarded to clarinetist Evan Schnurr and violinist Yue Yang.

 

The Comme Toi Piano Duo and the Ulysses Quartet & Trung were awarded the joint-Grand Prix at the 2019 inaugural Vietnam International Chamber Music Competition – in Hanoi, Vietnam.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to the Vietnam-based Amici Quartet and the L’Espoir Trio.

 

16-year-old Natalie Kendy from Australia was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Australian National Youth Concerto Competition – in Brisbane, Australia.

 

24-year-old Jevgēnijs Čepoveckis, from Latvia, was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Oleh Krysa International Violin Competition – in Lviv, Ukraine.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 20-year-old Kostiantyn Lukyniuk from Ukraine – and 20-year-old VC Young Artist Dmytro Udovychenko from Ukraine.

 

24-year-old Ming Liu from China was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Harbin International Violin Competition – in Harbin, China.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Angela Sin Ying Chan from China/Hong Kong – and 21-year-old Haram Kim from South Korea.

 

23-year-old Issei Kurihara from Japan was awarded 2nd prize at the 2019 Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competition – in Gorizia, Italy.

No 1st prize was awarded.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to Chaofan Wang from China – and Tianren Xie from China. 

5th, 6th and 7th prizes were awarded to Namhyun Kim from South Korea, Mariia Lundina from Russia – and Irené Fiorito from Italy.

 

MinGwan Kim from South Korea was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition – in Prague, Czech Republic.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Yuri Yoon from South Korea – and Evgeny Shchegolev from Russia.

 

The six prize winners of the 2019 4th Progressive Classical Music Award were presented to composers Piotr Szewczyk, Jürgen Christ, Edmund Jolliffe, Rainer BartschViktor Molnár and Daniel Berg.

 

20-year-old Martin Zayranov from Bulgaria was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Grazyna Bacewicz International Violin Competition – in Łódź, Poland.

2nd prize was awarded to Aleksandra Kuls from Poland. Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Woo Hyung Kim from South Korea – and Marta Gidaszewska from Poland.

 

Violin duo, Marta Gidaszewska and Robert Łaguniak were awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Rubinstein International Chamber Music Competition – in Dusseldorf, Germany.

2nd prize was awarded to the Yugen Trio.

Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Quatuor Arlequin and the Stuttgarter Kammerduo.

 

20-year-old Sara Dragan from Poland was awarded 1st prize in the Senior Category at the 2019 Novosibirsk International Violin Competition – in Novosibirsk, Russia.

2nd prize was awarded to Laura Handler.

1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in this year’s Junior Category were awarded to Teo GertlerLaura KosterIvan Kerbiou.

 

21-year-old cellist Miles Mullin-Chivers from Australia was awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Gisborne International Music Competition – in Gisborne, New Zealand.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 23-year-old cellist Sam Lucas from Australia – and 21-year-old violinist Katherine Woo.

 

Superstar German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter was announced as 1 of 3 recipients of the prestigious 2019 Polar Music Prize – in Sweden.

 

The Luminarts Cultural Foundation, in Chicago, announced 18-year-old American violinist Joshua Brown as a recipient of 1 of 5 2019 Luminarts Fellowship grants.

 

The Kulturstiftung Dortmund announced 28-year-old violinist Marc Bouchkov as the recipient of the 2019 €5,000 Young Artist Music Prize.

 

Double bassist Joesph Conyers, soprano Raquel Gonzalez and baritone Will Liverman were awarded the Sphinx Organization 2019 Medals of Excellence.
